Lakeview
This house in the Outer Hebrides was built as a summer residence for the client in 1998. Like most of the modern housing on the island, it is timber-framed, but breaks with local tradition by having timber weatherboarding instead of render, giving it a more Scandinavian feel. The house was designed with a simple form and plan to be as economical as possible. It is sited so that the large southwest-facing window has a fantastic view of the sea and mountains in the distance. Inside the open roof structure gives the large living space a barn-like appearance, with daylight coming from all directions.
